In doing so, we document an important shift: Millennials are the first generation...

never tell someone you never want to speak to them again
never burn up all their words, or the photographs, or the ticket stubs
never give away the books, or the cds, or the things they left in your apartment
never tell someone that you wish you’d never met them
or that you wished they were dead

Melody Records is closing. At left is a staff-approved playlist, in honor of the 35-year-old D.C. institution. Consider it your soundtrack for the afternoon.
So sad. I used to hang out in Melody before and after I was working at Secondi and bother the shit out of the very very patient employees there. This playlist is killer. Hats off to you, Melody Records. Dupont...

Dear all of my painter friends,
I am looking for examples of contemporary painters who do a lot of color field work? I’m not even sure if that’s the right phrase but people like Rothko, Gene Davis, Kenneth Noland, etc- but the work has to have been made in the last ten years.

Your Sunday Instruction: Support this Kickstarter project by the Empty Stretch collective to publish a photography book by local DC artists! I am a fan of these folks, many of whom are Corcoran alumni, and who I follow on Tumblr, especially Jordan Swartz, Aaron Canipe and Sara Winston.
But please Empty Stretch collective, don’t stop publishing your smaller zines! I heart them.

I’ve been back in Ballyvaughan for a little over a week now. The readjustment has been difficult and strange and I don’t feel completely at home again. The abscense of ten of the most wonderful people I’ve had the opportunity to know is palpable and the atmosphere here is not the same as it was in Autumn. It never will be, I know, but I was hoping it would be. It’s not bad...

Cigarette smoke hanging on in the living room. The ship’s lights out on the water, dimming. The stars burning holes in the sky. Becoming ash, yes. But it’s all right, they’re supposed to do that. Those lights we call stars. Burn for a time and then die. Me hell-bent. Wishing it were tomorrow already. I remember my mother, God love her, saying, Don’t wish for tomorrow....

I just wanted you to know you were the best thing that could have ever happened to me.
That’s a lot of pressure, to hear that from someone. To have that be the last thing someone ever says to you. That’s a lot of pressure.

and if I just stay awhile here staring at the sea and the waves break ever closer, ever near to me I will lay down in the sand and let the ocean leave carry me to Inisfree like pollen on the breeze
Also, if anyone wants a ride to the memorial on Thursday, please let me know.
I’ll be home Wednesday evening. I probably won’t have a phone and I also probably will be weird the whole time so if it seems like I’m not trying to see you please don’t take offense.
